I know people overuse the word epic, but I like it, so I am going to continue to use it as I see fit. This hike was a little bit, okay a lot, EPIC. I think the best part about it was that we did it on accident, but also the views were incredible and different from every single point along the hike. The last climb up to the basin looks like a trail out of a storybook. There were giant clusters of butterflies that would swirl around you as you walked. It was insane. This hike is the reason I decided to do this whole hiking goal situation in the first place.
In the Basin:
I should probably take a time out and explain how we did it by accident. In short, roads aren't marked well out by Triumph, and also, we don't follow directions. We were trying to go up to Pio Cabin. Anyone who knows where that is and where we ended up is laughing their head off right now, but we were trying to go up the north fork of Hyndman creek to the cabin and then we had a car parked at corral creek and we were going to go down the Pio cabin trail. We just sort of misread/blatantly ignored the trail head directions. I maintain that it could happen to anyone. So we were around half way into this hike before we realized we were definitely on the wrong one, so we decided to stick it out. I am SO glad we did. Also, Pio Cabin is still on the list...
